Melissa Dobbins, M. Ed. LPC, Registered Play Therapist
Melissa's goal is to provide a safe, non-judgemental environment which fosters therapeutic rapport and maximizes the client’s positive change and growth. Her passion is to help children and adolescents experiencing emotional, behavioral, and relational difficulties find healing and improve their well-being.
Through an eclectic therapeutic approach tailored to fit each individual’s personal needs, Melissa can assist clients in expressing and working through their difficult feelings, thoughts, and experiences. She aspires to provide her clients and their families the tools they need to be successful in life and thrive.
Melissa has over ten years of counseling experience working with children, adolescents, adults, and families. Her professional work experience includes providing individual therapy, group therapy, family therapy, and mental health services in community agency and non-profit settings, as well as public schools. She also has extensive experience treating children and adolescents struggling with emotional disturbances, anxiety, sexual and physical abuse/neglect, trauma, behavior problems, ADD/ADHD, anger issues, and depression. Melissa is also on the Board for the North Carolina Association for Play Therapy.
Some of the treatment approaches she utilizes are Play Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family Therapy, Child-Parent Relationship Training, and Sandtray Therapy.
